About The Position

Alarm Monitors shall be trained in the proper use of communications equipment including telephone, radio, and other electrical or electronic alarm signal-receiving systems. Alarm Monitors shall be trained for dispatching, police, and requesting medical, police, or other fire department assistance, as necessary.

Requirements

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • High school education or equivalency.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proof of insurance.
  • Favorable driving history.
  • One (1) year of general experience demonstrating communication operations and procedures (excluding telephone switchboard operation or communications clerk).
  • Work requiring skill in operating a typewriter-type keyboard (e.g., teletype, CRT).
  • Ability to professionally interact as a service provider to the general public, Government employees, and other law enforcement agencies over the telephone.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply printed procedures, detailed orders, instructions, and training material.
  • Ability to maintain poise and self-control under stress.
  • Ability to compose and write clear, concise, and accurate reports and messages.
  • Ability to speak in a clear, distinct, and understandable manner.
  • One (1) year of specialized experience demonstrating: operation of voice radio circuits, progressively greater knowledge of varied communication equipment operation, operations of personal computer type equipment (data input and retrieval), and ability to handle stressful/life-threatening situations similar to police, fire, or EMS environments.
  • Unaided or correctable hearing thresholds at 20dB or below in each ear for 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz, and 30 dB or below for frequencies up to 3000 Hz.
  • Monocular or binocular vision, correctable to 20/20 (Snellen).
  • Ability to correctly and reliably see and distinguish between red, green, and blue colors.
  • Favorable Criminal and Credit Background Check.
  • Favorable Drug and alcohol screening results.
  • U.S. Citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of education above the high school level may be substituted for specialized experience (with the exception of the ability to handle stressful/life-threatening situations).

Responsibilities

  • Operate communications equipment including telephone, radio, and alarm signal-receiving systems.
  • Dispatch police and request medical, police, or fire department assistance.
  • Operate voice radio circuits.
  • Operate personal computer equipment, including data input and retrieval functions.
  • Handle stressful and/or life-threatening situations.
  • Manipulate all equipment controls properly and expeditiously.
  • Push, pull, rotate, and twist control devices such as switches, knobs, dials, buttons, levers, computer mice, and keyboard keys.
  • Insert and remove plugs and connectors.
  • Thread tape machines and insert, eject, remove, and place computer disks, CDs, DVDs, video and audio tapes and cassettes, and paper in office appliances and storage containers.
  • Operate equipment at any level within reach while sitting or standing.
  • Grasp tightly tube shaped items such as handles, flashlights, handrails, bottles, cans, as well as straps and rope.
  • Move about the area of operations without colliding with furniture, equipment, and other persons.
  • Traverse hallways and enter and leave buildings without assistance.
