About The Position

This is a long-term contract position for an AIX/LINUX Administrator located in Downtown Houston, TX. The role involves a hybrid work model, with 4 days onsite and 1 day remote. The primary responsibilities include performing upgrades and patching for various operating systems such as Red Hat Linux (RHEL 8.x, RHEL 9.x), SUSE Linux (12.x, 15.x), and AIX (6.x, 7.x). The role also requires managing the Hardware Management Console, performing firmware upgrades for IBM Hardware CECs, and handling filesystem and user management in heterogeneous Unix/Linux environments. Troubleshooting performance and hardware issues, and managing vendor relationships for physical hardware and operating system components are also key aspects of this position. A significant part of the role involves designing, implementing, and overseeing automated patching of Linux and AIX server infrastructure using the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), including creating and maintaining Ansible playbooks, roles, and workflows. Additionally, the administrator will be responsible for troubleshooting automation failures and system performance issues, and developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of AIX Operating System administration
  • L3 expertise in the administration of SUSE and Red Hat operating systems
  • Familiarity with the Ansible automation platform and its application in patching
  • Creation and execution of templates on the Ansible automation platform
  • Upgrading operating systems using standard native OS tools such as YUM, Zypper, and dnf
  • Knowledge of heterogeneous OS administration, including IBM AIX, SUSE Linux, RHEL Linux, and Oracle Linux
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Shell

Responsibilities

  • Upgrades of Red Hat Linux operating systems (RHEL 8.x and RHEL 9.x)
  • Upgrades of SUSE Linux operating systems (versions 12.x and 15.x)
  • Patching and migrations of the AIX Operating System (versions 6.x and 7.x)
  • Upgrades of the Hardware Management Console
  • Firmware upgrades for IBM Hardware CECs
  • Patch management
  • Filesystem management and user management on heterogeneous Unix/Linux environments
  • Troubleshooting performance and hardware issues
  • Vendor management for physical hardware, including operating system, firmware, and ILO firmware upgrades
  • Design, implement, and oversee the automated patching of Linux and AIX server infrastructure utilizing the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)
  • Create, test, and uphold resilient Ansible playbooks, roles, and workflows for comprehensive patching of Linux (RHEL, SUSE, Oracle Linux, etc.) and AIX systems
  • Troubleshoot and support: Identify and rectify issues associated with automation failures and system performance throughout patching cycles
  • Develop and sustain thorough documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and architectural designs, for all automated processes
