About The Position

The Airworthiness Specialist will support the Sensors Plans & Advanced Programs Division (RYZ) by assisting in the planning, development, and execution of the AFRL programs requiring airworthiness assessments, policy, and training and safe-to fly determinations.

Requirements

  • MA or MS with a major in engineering from an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) college or university and Minimum twenty (20) years’ experience in the airworthiness field.
  • BA/BS with a major in engineering from an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) college or university and Minimum twenty five (25) years’ experience in the airworthiness field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience must be in the DoD
  • Possess and Maintain an Active Secret Clearance

  • Knowledge in application of engineering principles, criteria, and procedures to DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems, USAF systems (e.g. Vanguard programs), subsystems, and equipment procurement activities, post award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their life cycles.
  • Knowledge in application of program management philosophy, policies, and procedures for DoD, AF, and other Services systems, subsystems, equipment, procurement activities, post award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their lifecycles.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, development, and execution of Airworthiness certification processes to support aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Support the planning, development, and execution of airworthiness assessments, policy, and training and safe-to-fly determinations.
  • Document and track each AFRL Airworthiness flight test project and draft military flight releases or Civil Aircraft Operations letters for each AFRL program.
  • Maintain records management, editing, and compile reports and presentations as required.
  • Provide overarching technical support to the AFRL Delegated Technical Authority (DTA), internal and external organizations to include guidance, advice, counsel, and flight release authorization recommendations.
  • Support with providing annual AFRL DTA report generation 30 days after the end of the calendar year.
  • Support the generation and maintenance of Airworthiness and flight release disposition files and supporting documentation within various systems.
