About The Position

The Boeing Company is seeking an Airworthiness and Regulatory Engineer based out of Arlington, VA to support the Emerging Technologies and Regulatory Affairs organization. The Emerging Technologies and Regulatory Affair team’s mission is to (1) align and integrate safety, security, and operational and regulatory strategies enterprise-wide to ensure our products and services adapt to a changing regulatory environment and (2) champion strategic emerging technology initiatives with governments, regulators, and industry. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Experienced (Level 3) and Senior (Level 4) Airworthiness & Regulatory Engineer. The position is responsible for coordinating ongoing technical, safety, and regulatory developments of significance to the company with/across the appropriate Boeing teams and subsidiaries, as well as working to integrate enterprise technical, safety, and regulatory strategic initiatives across organizational boundaries and with regulators, policy makers, industry, and trade associations. This role requires a significant amount of interaction with people and leadership, including external stakeholders, so excellent people skills, communication skills, and the ability to negotiate and build consensus are required. In addition, this position offers the potential to broaden skills and experience across multiple engineering disciplines. The individual fulfilling this role will serve as a technical liaison, working with Boeing Government Operations, Boeing subsidiaries (including Wisk, SkyGrid, Aurora Flight Sciences), BCA Product Development, BDS Autonomous Systems, Boeing ET&I Autonomy programs, governmental agencies, and various industry and trade organizations the DC area on technical and regulatory issues and policies. As part of an agile, empowered team, this candidate will act as a key resource to help Boeing and subsidiary teams pioneer and execute regulatory innovation and certification projects. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to grow their knowledge and expertise of the global regulatory ecosystem while also building relationships with internal and external key stakeholders. Our team is currently hiring for a range of experience levels including experienced and senior level engineers.

Requirements

  • Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Experience in a role developing, leading, and executing projects and utilizing project processes / skills
  • Able to travel 10% of the time
  • Experience interpreting regulatory documents

  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience on an Integrated Product Team (IPT)
  • Experience analyzing and presenting data
  • Experience in Aircraft Design and/or Analysis experience
  • Experience implementing processes and standards compliant with airplane certification standards and/or FAA certification standards
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, analyzes, and responds to technical developments including certification, safety, and regulatory issues for emerging technology and autonomy, including coordinating and developing impact assessments for regulatory policy changes
  • Develops integrated plans, and establishes and leads cross-organizational teams to respond to regulatory and policy changes and to proactively define and advocate for Boeing strategic objectives
  • Understand and communicate impact of FAA proposed policy and rulemaking, as well as other external documents including: consensus standards, industry white papers, global regulatory publications, and advisory committee recommendations
  • Develops and executes communication strategies and messaging on Boeing issues for a variety of stakeholder groups
  • Represents Boeing on technical committees and at conferences or events within the Washington DC area
