About The Position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for maintaining the airport's infrastructure and ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. Duties include performing airfield inspections, maintenance, and repairs; managing wildlife hazards; operating snow and ice removal equipment; issuing NOTAMs; and performing pavement maintenance. This position will also be responsible for general building and equipment maintenance, storm water monitoring, and security checks.

Requirements

Knowledge of FAA Guidelines for airport radio advisory communications.
Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and hazards of aircraft operations.
Knowledge of the safety requirements for airport operations.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing airport operations and storage of aircraft.
Knowledge of gas, diesel engines and electrical motors.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing the storage, use and disposal of solvents and lubricants.
Skill in communicating with others by oral and written means.
Ability to perform general maintenance, including minor electrical, mechanical, building, and equipment.
Ability to work independently without scheduled supervisory staff.
Ability to make an effective and measured response to aircraft emergency situations by contacting the appropriate authorities and taking steps to maintain safe aircraft operations or temporarily suspend aircraft operations.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to; carrying, dragging, pulling, pushing and writing.
Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to 100 pounds.
Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to; radio, tractors, and mowers.
Ability to express proper radio terminology.
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, airport patrons and the general public.
Ability to work 70% of the time in an outdoors environment subject to extremes of temperature, inclement weather and intermittent exposure to fumes and dust.
Incumbent is subject to potential mechanical, electrical, explosive, toxic waste, and chemical hazards.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Two years of college.
An equivalent education or experience will be accepted.
A valid Drivers License, Class C.

Responsibilities

Conduct airport safety self-inspections in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.337, documenting airside conditions for review.
Maintain unpaved areas, including mowing and grading, to ensure safety areas are clear for aircraft and fire equipment passage, in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.307.
Mow the Instrument Landing System (ILS) critical areas in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.307.
Perform tasks outlined in the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP) and in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.337.
Perform airfield electrical maintenance, including repairing or replacing runway and taxiway fixtures and bulbs to comply with FAA standards for ILS-served runways.
Promptly repair airfield signs to comply with FAA Advisory Circular 150/5345-44J and Federal Aviation Regulation 139.311.
Perform building/fencing maintenance, including maintaining hangars, replacing doors, roofs, seals, and repairing controlled-access gates.
Perform general maintenance of the airport terminal and air traffic control tower, including elevated lighting and window treatments.
Perform repairs and preventative maintenance to airport equipment such as tractors, mowers, skid steers, aircraft tugs, utility task vehicles, and implements.
Identify and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for each task.
Perform snow and ice prevention and control, operating snow and ice removal equipment during winter storms in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.313.
Complete specialized training for operating plows, loading and calibrating deicer spreaders for runways, taxiways, ramps, roads, and gates.
Issue and coordinate Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) through the FAA NOTAM manager system.
Perform pavement maintenance, including repairing paved areas, pavement breaks, spalling, routing and sealing cracks, and replacing paint striping and reflectors, in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.30.
Enter and update information in the Airport's Work Order Management System.
Perform storm water monitoring and inspection, including sampling and inspection reports in compliance with the Airport’s storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP).
Perform security runs to check and secure airport grounds, including gates, hangars, Terminal and FBO buildings, tenant leased spaces, and the Airport Tower.
