About The Position

The Boise Airport is growing and undergoing a multi-million-dollar capital expansion plan. The City of Boise is recruiting dedicated Airport Custodians and Floor Technicians to keep pace with the growth and meet community demands. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with 24/7 operations. Successful candidates will be hired as either a Custodian or a Floor Technician based on their experience. A shift differential is available for swing and night shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of: maintaining cleaning equipment and products; general cleaning procedures; airport security protocol; mixing rules and regulations of cleaning chemicals and solutions; safety and cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to: work on ladders and scaffolds up to 20 feet high; remove and lift large amounts of trash and other waste; operate power tools and equipment such as floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, side-by-side buffers and lifts; identify safety and security hazards; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • 4 years of experience working in the custodial field (for Floor Technician)
  • Knowledge of: the operation of various floor cleaning equipment; general cleaning procedures; airport security protocol; mixing rules and regulations of cleaning chemicals and solutions (for Floor Technician).
  • Ability to: troubleshoot and address equipment issues; operate power tools and equipment, such as floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, side-by-side buffers and lifts; identify safety and security hazards; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation (for Floor Technician).
  • Complete Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Certifications for 100 & 700 Courses within six months of being hired.
  • Pass City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks.
  • Pass Transportation Security Administration background check (SIDA).

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine or repetitive tasks with specific instructions and set procedures.
  • Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Cleans and stocks restrooms.
  • Vacuums waiting areas, stairwells, escalator grids, elevator tracks and walkways.
  • Cleans carpets by extraction and carpet spotting.
  • Picks up trash and empties trash receptacles.
  • Wipes tables and chairs.
  • Spot cleans windows, stainless columns and trim.
  • Mops and sweeps hard surface floors and performs scrub and wax recoating.
  • Cleans up spills and tenant lease spaces.
  • Interacts with the public and provides information or directs them to appropriate personnel.
  • Reports and follows up on safety issues identified during shift inspections.
  • Shovels snow.
  • Keeps hard surface floors dry during wet conditions to avoid safety concerns for passengers and tenants.
  • Maintains awareness of airport security.
  • Watches for and responds to unattended baggage or package items, security door alarms, possible security breaches, odd or suspicious behavior from passengers, and dangerous or prohibited items found in trash, restrooms and waiting areas.
  • Assists operations and responds to emergencies.
  • Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Is capable of performing all duties of a Custodian, and provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, as needed.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of floor cleaning equipment, such as industrial scrubbers, polishers and vacuums, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
  • Performs routine inspections, troubleshoots issues and coordinates repairs with maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Cleans airport floors, including but not limited to terminals, hallways, restrooms and public areas, utilizing specialized equipment.
  • Addresses spills, stains and other cleanliness concerns promptly and efficiently.
  • Works collaboratively with the custodial team to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to airport cleanliness.
  • Coordinates with colleagues to schedule and prioritize floor cleaning activities to minimize disruptions to airport operations.
  • Maintains accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance activities and inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Provides regular reports on floor cleaning activities, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
