About The Position

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), owned by the City of Austin and operated by the Department of Aviation, is a significant economic driver for Central Texas, supporting over 74,000 jobs. As AUS undergoes its largest improvement program in history, this role is crucial in redefining the travel experience. This position coordinates and leads new construction initiatives, manages building plan submissions to the City of Austin Planning Department, and oversees installation, repair, maintenance, and remodeling projects for airport facilities. The role acts as a multi-trades master, coordinating and reviewing work by skilled trades, managing complex installations, renovations, and remodeling. It involves coordinating activities, materials, and equipment for construction projects, ensuring work orders meet client expectations and quality standards. The position performs technical tasks, estimates time, labor, and materials, maintains records, prepares reports, and inspects supplies. A key responsibility is developing and administering the preventative maintenance program for all AUS facilities, systems, and assets, while also evaluating and controlling material inventory. The coordinator inspects contract construction projects for compliance with specifications and reviews plans for future development. Workflow and tasks for operations and maintenance technicians are managed through the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and data is extracted for reporting and analysis of work production, timelines, and budget expenditures. This role provides leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

  • Ability to analyze and estimate time, labor, materials, and costs of repair requirements to ensure organizational efficiency.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to be work in a shift capacity that may rotate or adjust with little notice including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to reads blueprints, specifications, and building codes to ensure assigned construction requests meet specifications and codes.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in general building or facility construction, including one (1) year of experience which was in a lead or supervisory capacity and three (3) years of experience which were in the Aviation industry.
  • Texas Class C Operator’s License or ability to obtain within ninety (90) calendar days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coordinating construction, maintenance, or renovation projects in an airport, aviation, or other 24/7 critical operations environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial carpentry practices, including framing, roofing systems, cabinetry, drywall, and interior/exterior finishes.
  • Experience leading or coordinating multi-trade teams (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, general trades) on complex facility projects.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as IBM Maximo or similar platforms for work order and asset management.
  • Experience in project planning and scheduling, including estimating labor, materials, and equipment needs.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a Multi trades master in the coordination and review of work performed by skilled trade personnel to implement AUS’s maintenance program, which includes complex installations, renovations, and remodeling construction activities.
  • Coordinates activities, material, and equipment necessary to complete assigned or contracted construction projects and ensures work orders meet client expectations for completeness according to quality standards.
  • Performs various technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Estimates time, labor, and materials required; maintains records; prepares and submits reports; and inspects and approves supplies.
  • Develops and administers the preventative maintenance program for all AUS facilities, systems, and assets.
  • Evaluates, monitors, and controls material inventory that is required for the airport facilities maintenance program.
  • Inspects construction projects performed under contract for compliance with specifications and reviews plans and specifications for future development and construction.
  • Manages the workflow and work tasks assigned to operations and maintenance technicians through the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Extracts data from various computer programs to produce reports and evaluate and assess work production/timelines and budget expenditures.
  • Provides leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
