About The Position

Multi-state design firm is seeking a Lead Airport Engineer for their team in Des Moines! This role involves acting as an advisor, mentoring staff, and providing firm-wide direction in specialized engineering services. The Lead Airport Engineer will participate in key projects, maintain a reputation as a technical expert, and collaborate on strategies and best practices. Responsibilities include directing technical resources, ensuring quality control, researching industry trends, and building client relationships. The position also involves representing the firm in professional organizations and serving as a discipline quality leader.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, sciences, construction, planning, landscape architecture or a related area preferred
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree with equivalent experience is required
  • 10+ years’ experience in a civil engineering discipline with a focus on airports
  • Strong understanding of engineering business consulting
  • Possess highly specialized technical knowledge related to a particular service or discipline
  • Has a proven track record in meeting/exceeding client expectations through innovative technical services
  • Authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Act as an advisor to internal teams and external contractors
  • Mentor/train staff to elevate the level of technical capabilities
  • Provide firm-wide direction, internal consultation, and services to clients in a specialized service or discipline integral to the firm
  • Participate in key projects
  • Maintain a reputation as a technical expert outside of the firm (write papers, give technical presentations, and/or regularly represents the firm in professional and technical societies)
  • Collaborate to develop/implement strategies and best practices that align with discipline trends and standards
  • Provide direction in putting together technical resources for key projects, using resources effectively
  • Promote efficiencies in producing quality work
  • Ensure quality control standards are maintained
  • Research/analyze discipline-related data, trends, and emerging technologies
  • Monitor/evaluate the effectiveness of industry-related initiatives within the discipline
  • Make recommendations for improvements or modifications as needed
  • Build/maintain client relationships
  • Represent the firm on governing bodies of professional organizations to elevate the profession
  • Serve as a discipline quality leader to support discipline efforts to implement, educate, and continuously improve the program
