About The Position

Eaton’s Airfield Lighting business is currently seeking an Airfield Lighting Product Junior Field Technician. Our team supports lighting and control systems used on airport airfields, including runway and taxiway lighting and the regulators and control systems that support them. This is a field-based technical role combining electrical, computer/networking and control systems work. The Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) Field Technician will install, configure, commission, test and train on control system projects, including responsibility for technical project activities and the execution of high-level, airport-critical Airport Lighting Products (ALP) control systems. The incumbent will develop into a subject matter expert on ALP computerized control systems and will be responsible for independently configuring, testing, installing and documenting in-house and on-site control systems. This role requires a minimum of 75% travel, including overnight travel, with most weeks spent on-site at customer locations. The Field Technician must be able to effectively apply both electrical and computer technology knowledge while working independently.

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree from an accredited institution OR two years’ experience in a field service environment.
  • Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Windsor, CT will be considered. Active-duty military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; English required.
  • Basic understanding of project management processes
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Professionally represent the organization to the customer while providing accurate and timely problem resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, wiring and hardware configuration using electrical measurement equipment such as a True RMS multimeter and current clamps and personal protective equipment
  • Perform installation and configuration of network switches.
  • Perform installation and configuration of computer operating systems.
  • Be available for emergency travel and on-site support.
  • Support, troubleshoot and resolve customer issues over the phone as part of the technical Helpdesk.
  • Lead and support factory control systems assembly, installation, build and test.
  • Lead and document factory acceptance tests.
  • Learn and practice to become a subject matter expert on CHALP (Crouse-Hinds Airport Lighting Products) control systems including the ability to perform customer training and recommend improvements on upgrades and best practices.
  • Review and approve project technical drawings submissions.
  • Be organized and clearly document critical reports such as drawing markups, site reports and punch lists.
  • Have responsibility for expense management and capital planning.
