About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Aircraft Structures Mechanic Level 2/3 to join their operations team in Clearfield, UT. This role is part of the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge), designed for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience during their last 6 months of service. The program offers internships that could lead to full-time opportunities and serves as a pipeline for motivated military candidates. Interns will receive on-the-job training, supporting a work schedule of 40 hours per week, and will be involved in professional development, networking, and training focused on leadership principles, company history, customer engagement, and core job responsibilities. The internship aims to provide a rewarding opportunity for transitioning service members to join the Northrop Grumman team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • At least 2-years of relatable aircraft experience in manufacturing/production experience (or similar) for Level 2
  • At least 4-years of relatable aircraft experience in manufacturing/production experience (or similar) for Level 3
  • Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, working overhead or at heights, and accessing small, confined spaces
  • DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access required to start
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends
  • Must successfully complete and pass the “ASTAR New Hire Training / Compliance” within a reasonable time period, as defined by the company to meet its business need.
  • Must be able to pass a New Hire Physical Exam, and able to obtain and maintain a respirator clearance and compliance with all respirator fitting requirements
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous composite, manufacturing, or production experience
  • Demonstrated ability using standard measuring equipment and power hand tools
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical specifications and operating procedures

Responsibilities

  • Aligning parts on jigs using templates and fixtures
  • Performing part-fitting operations such as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming.
  • Measuring parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
  • Modifying incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure.
  • Monitoring and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week.
