About The Position

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position in the regular career civil service. ARTs are Federal employees and must maintain active membership in the assigned Air Force Reserve unit. The position involves installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and functionally testing major aircraft systems, assemblies, and components. ARTs receive, on average, one weekend of military training per month. Regular assignments are primarily ART duties; non-ART duties may also be assigned and generally will not exceed 30% of total responsibilities. Work schedules are aligned to allow participation in unit training assembly (UTA) weekends. The employee must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements and may perform flight duties during maintenance test flights and functional check flights. Work takes place in hangar areas, outdoors, and in parked aircraft, sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Conditions may include extreme heat, cold, humidity, inclement weather, confined spaces, awkward positions, dirt, grease, aircraft fluids, solvents, hazardous fluids and gases, machinery, moving vehicles, and aircraft intake suction or hot exhaust. Physical demands include heavy lifting and carrying, reaching, walking, sanding, bending, climbing, and operating vehicles or equipment. The position requires a pre-employment physical unless exempt, and the ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
