About The Position

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies for Aircraft Helper, Aircraft Worker, and Aircraft Mechanic. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer; interested applicants must follow the directions in the "How to Apply" section of the flyer to be considered. There may or may not be actual vacancies filled from this flyer, and notice of result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. This position is designed as a developmental opportunity to allow for training, skill development, and progression from a WG-8852-05 Aircraft Mechanic Helper to a WG-8852-08 Aircraft Mechanic Worker, and ultimately to a WG-8852-10 Aircraft Mechanic. Candidates should be committed to improving the efficiency of the Federal government, passionate about the ideals of our American republic, and committed to upholding the rule of law and the United States Constitution.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Through experience and training, you must possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

  • WG-05 Screen-out Element: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF an AIRCRAFT HELPER, WG-2805-05 without more than normal supervision.
  • WG-08 Screen-out Element: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF an AIRCRAFT WORKER, WG-2805-08 without more than normal supervision.
  • WG-10 Screen-out Element: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-2805-10 without more than normal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced and complex troubleshooting, repairs, and modifications to all aircraft systems and components.
  • Lead or coordinate the work of a team of mechanics to accomplish maintenance tasks, including setting priorities, distributing workloads, and overseeing the quality of work.
  • Conduct thorough inspections, using specialized equipment to diagnose faults and determine corrective actions.
  • Utilize technical manuals, service bulletins, and other publications to develop work plans and repair strategies.
  • Ensure that maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with safety standards, technical requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Following oral directions which vary from task to task i.e., following directions in operating a machine under close supervision, following directions in sorting items into groups when classifications are obvious.
  • Cleaning tools, machines, and work area.
  • Carrying out instructions involving simple tasks or decisions.
  • Recognizing by name basic machines and tools, standard shapes and types of stock.
  • Performing intermediate maintenance tasks, including troubleshooting and repair of aircraft systems (such as engines, avionics, landing gear, hydraulics, and airframes).
  • Testing, calibrating, and repairing electrical and mechanical systems, including assemblies and subassemblies, using technical manuals and schematics.
  • Assisting in the preparation and execution of routine inspections and modifications on a variety of military aircraft, ensuring compliance with technical publications, procedures, and standards.
  • Performing complex diagnostic tests on aircraft systems using a range of tools and testing equipment.
  • Using standard and specialized tools and test equipment of the trade including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands, and external power sources.
  • Removing, installing, connecting, aligning, adjusting, and testing complex systems and Assemblies.
  • Diagnosing issues with systems and recommending solutions.
  • Understanding technical instructions, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, drawings and specifications and interacting effectively with team members and maintaining clear documentation.
  • Collaborating with team members and senior personnel in a supportive role.
  • Applying safety policies, handling hazardous materials, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), tool control procedures, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD).
