The Aircraft Mechanic III is responsible for support of highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries. This role performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications of aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty. The mechanic will maintain and repair aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. They will apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions and use technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data like blueprints and manufacturer manuals. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting and repair procedures, as well as aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair. The ability to determine the functionality of complex electrical systems is also essential. The role involves accomplishing various inspections, including preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, and phase inspections. Additionally, the mechanic will launch and recover aircraft, perform operational checks of all aircraft systems, and maintain aircraft appearance and cleanliness. They will operate associated ground support equipment, use applicable hand tools, special tools, and fixtures, and perform all tasks related to the ground movement of aircraft. Maintenance actions must be accurately annotated in aircraft records/forms, with associated IMDS entries completed. The position requires adherence to good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness and prevention, and safety practices at all times. The role may involve TDY and travel, and the ability to work various shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends is necessary. The mechanic will also become proficient in three maintenance classifications (aircraft general, jet engines, and pneudraulics) through Cross Utilization Training (CUT).
