About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic III is responsible for support of highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries. This role involves performing scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs and modifications of aircraft structures, components, and engines. The mechanic will troubleshoot and repair aircraft systems such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components, applying technical knowledge to interpret blueprints and manufacturer manuals to solve complex problems. The position also includes performing various inspections (preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, phase), launching and recovering aircraft, conducting operational checks, maintaining aircraft cleanliness, operating ground support equipment, and performing ground movement of aircraft. Maintenance actions must be accurately documented in aircraft records and IMDS entries. The role emphasizes good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness, and safety. The mechanic will also undergo Cross Utilization Training (CUT) to become proficient in three classifications: aircraft general, jet engines, and pneudraulics. The position may require travel (TDY).

Requirements

  • A Minimum of a High School Diploma or a GED required.
  • Knowledge of the use of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment is required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and know how to operate portable firefighting equipment.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications are required.
  • Must possess an FAA A&P certificate.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • US Citizenship is required to obtain the clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain & maintain a flightline driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years’ working knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs and modifications of aircraft structures, components, and engines.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions.
  • Interpret technical data like blueprints and manufacturer manuals to solve complex problems.
  • Accomplish inspections including preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, and phase inspections.
  • Launch and recover aircraft as required.
  • Perform operational checks of all aircraft systems.
  • Maintain aircraft appearance and cleanliness.
  • Operate all associated ground support equipment.
  • Use hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft.
  • Perform all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
  • Annotate maintenance actions in aircraft records/forms and complete associated IMDS entries.
  • Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness and prevention, and safety.
  • Perform other duties related to the occupational field as assigned.
  • Work day shift, second shift, night shift, and/or weekend shift as required.
  • Become proficient in aircraft general, jet engines, and pneudraulics through Cross Utilization Training (CUT).
  • Undertake TDY and travel as required.
