About The Position

This mechanic maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty. They maintain and repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. The role involves applying technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to operational condition. This position requires interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturer's manuals to solve moderate to complex problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years’ actual and recent aircraft, vehicle or missile, or related weapon system experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft, missile, or wheeled and tracked vehicle maintenance mandatory.
  • Must have knowledge of the scope and limitation of various categories of maintenance and their application to the contract unit.
  • Must know theory and principles of engine operations; accessories and components; theory of flight; rigging of flight controls; electrical and electronic; pneudraulic; and mechanical principles.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal, properties of materials, fuels, and oils required.
  • Read, interpret and use manufacturers and aircraft maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring/schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Responsibilities

  • Services, repairs and overhauls equipment and engines.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds equipment and engine components, fuel systems (including cells, tanks and fuel/metering control systems), and functional components using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Inspects and repairs power plants (engines) malfunctions, including cracked components, oil leaks, etc.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions, isolates causes, and corrects breaks.
  • Tests engine operations using testing equipment to locate the source of malfunction.
  • Replaces and repairs damaged components using hand tools, gauges, and test equipment.
  • Removes engines and major components from equipment using hoists or other lifting devices.
  • Disassembles and inspects parts for wear, warping, or other defects.
  • Repairs and replaces defective engine components and reassembles and installs engines on weapon systems and vehicles.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces instruments, electrical/electronics, fuel/oil systems, and accessories.
  • Performs vehicle services, including engine flush/cleaning, parts lubrication, and maintenance checks.
  • May service engine components operations, making repairs and overhauls required to ensure safe operating condition.
  • May specialize in repair and modification of engines, structural components, precision repair, functional spare parts, and assemblies.
  • Recommends revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.
  • Continuously develops and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Completes all training requirements and fulfills self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities.
  • Participates in emergency response tasks and serves on safety committees and teams.
  • Conforms to the Amentum Quality Policy and carries out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Reads, understands, and implements the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to his/her job.
