The Aircraft Structural Mechanic is responsible for assessing aircraft damage and drafting repair procedures for aircraft structural and composite components. This role requires the utilization of advanced metalworking practices and techniques to form, cut, bend, and fasten new or repair components to damaged structures. Proficiency in close tolerance drilling/reaming for the installation of high-strength fasteners and the use of powered/non-powered metalworking tooling and equipment is essential. The position involves inspecting and assessing damage to aircraft structural components, removing and installing close tolerance, high-strength fasteners, and advising on structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection. The mechanic will also perform post-repair flight control weight and balance functions, control surface rigging, and inspect components/repairs for structural serviceability. Fabrication of jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds for repair or replacement parts is also a key responsibility. The role requires the use of shop drawing and metal layout techniques, shop mathematics, corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention, cleaning of metals, and application of protective coatings and markings. Documentation of maintenance, handling of hazardous waste, operation of support equipment, and use of automated maintenance systems are also part of the duties. The position also includes performing Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks, maintaining tool control, and complying with safety rules and regulations.
