About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic II (Avionics) role requires a skilled individual to perform maintenance, repair, and modification of aircraft structures and components. This position involves troubleshooting and repairing various aircraft systems, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and electrical systems. The mechanic will apply technical knowledge to diagnose and resolve issues, interpret technical documentation like blueprints and manuals, and utilize specialized aircraft tools. This role also involves maintaining aircraft records, potentially leading teams on complex tasks, and ensuring adherence to maintenance schedules and procedures. A key aspect of this role is the requirement to be trained and qualified as a Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) in accordance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program. The mechanic will work within specific work centers (Airframes, Avionics, Powerline) and perform maintenance as a Mechanic II CDQAR. Additional responsibilities include general housekeeping of the workstation to ensure a safe and FOD-free environment, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Previously Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) for Avionics Systems.
  • Aircraft Corrosion Control (N-701-0013) certification.
  • Must be eligible for Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Avionics System Technicians must have Secret Clearance.
  • Must be deployable to locations Outside Continental U.S. (OCONUS).
  • Respirator fit qualified.
  • Aircraft Corrosion Control (N-701-0013) certification.
  • Aircraft tow qualifications or equivalent.
  • Experience with aircraft avionics maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
  • Ability to perform general Organizational Level maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs.
  • Knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 years or more of Organizational level maintenance.
  • 5 years or more maintenance experience on KC-130J aircraft.
  • NALCOMIS OOMA Familiarization/Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management Course (Course D/E-555-0053 OR A COMBINATION OF NALCOMIS OOMA Familiarization Course (Course D/E-555-0054) and Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Course (Course D/E-555-0040)).
  • Previously Safe For Flight certified.
  • Qualified as Vibration Analysis Operator/Interpreter.
  • Tire and Wheel certified.
  • Hydraulic Contamination.
  • APU Operator.
  • Aircraft Tow qualifications as wing walker, Tow Supervisor, and driver.
  • Aircraft paint and final finish.

Responsibilities

  • Repair engines, sheet metal, and structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty.
  • Provide input to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC) and Estimated Cost of Damage preparation (ECOD).
  • Assist in the recommendation of changes to (MWO).
  • Prioritize workloads and lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
  • Inspect Mechanic IIs and Is.
  • Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and restoring equipment condition and/or operation.
  • Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturers’ manuals.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace parts for aircraft mechanical components.
  • Perform aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Apply basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Utilize aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • Work with technical publications.
  • Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Perform corrosion control functions and tasks.
  • Be trained and qualified as Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representatives (CDQAR) in accordance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program 4790 and all local and command requirements.
  • Perform maintenance in work centers 120 (Airframes), 200 (Avionics), and 300 (Powerline) as a Mechanic II CDQAR.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
  • Perform general Organizational Level maintenance.
  • Administer Aircraft Logs and Records.
  • Write with clarity and technical accuracy, exhibit leadership, and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Control and coordinate aircraft maintenance.
  • Perform diagnosis and corrective actions, disassemble, inspect, evaluate, and accomplish necessary repairs.
  • Lay out work according to technical instructions and technical directives.
  • Determine required repairs, modifications, and part replacements.
  • Verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.
  • Provide Aircraft Organizational Level (O-Level) Maintenance Support, General Aircraft Maintenance, Corrosion Prevention, Detection, and Abatement/Repair as required for KC-130J aircraft.
  • Maintain assigned aircraft/aeronautical equipment in a manner that meets or exceeds the requirements of the CNAFINST 4790.2 (series) programs IAW the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
  • Provide Scheduled and unscheduled Organizational (O-Level) Maintenance Support.
  • Perform Maintenance Control planning and management.
  • Perform aircraft maintenance action documentation via records, forms, and electronic means.
  • Operate and inspect Support Equipment.
  • Perform Aircraft inspections.
  • Perform Aircraft Movement.
  • Perform Corrosion Control/Aircraft Painting.
  • Perform Troubleshooting.
  • Perform Preservation and de-preservation.
  • Perform general aircraft maintenance.
  • Ensure Technical Directive compliance and modifications.
  • Initiate and Complete Maintenance Action Forms via Optimized Organizational Maintenance Activity (OOMA) or hard copy.
  • Perform duties as Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for Avionics Systems.
