About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. This role involves repairing, replacing, and rebuilding aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, utilizing various hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment. The mechanic reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine repair methods. Key duties include performing various hourly or calendar inspections (100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic), examining reciprocating engines for issues like cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listening to operating engines to diagnose malfunctions. The position also requires inspecting jet engines and components for damage, corrosion, and wear, and testing engine operation using specialized equipment to locate malfunctions. Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, removing and installing engines, adjusting electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories, and performing preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections. The mechanic also services aircraft by flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. Supervision of aircraft jacking and towing, along with accurate maintenance record-keeping, is also part of the role. There may be opportunities to service engines and airframe components at line stations for repairs short of overhaul, and to specialize in the repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, or in engine repair. A Federal Aviation Administration license may be required.

Requirements

  • Valid up-to-date A&P license.
  • If no A&P license, shall have Three (3) years aviation maintenance experience (all experience must be within the Six (6) most recent years).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for a facility credentials/authorization at the work location.
  • Possess own shadowed/etched Tools and Toolbox.
  • Possess good communication skills.
  • Be adaptable, diversified and capable of troubleshooting entire aircraft system.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical and associated systems principles to complete properly all probable work tasks.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control, Production and Supply procedures required to perform job assignment.
  • Able to properly use a variety of common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches and scales and test, measurement and diagnostic equipment related to specific aircraft models.
  • Able to determine when faulty systems or assemblies can be corrected through repair of replacement of new parts and the nature and extent of repair required.
  • Must have skill in reading, applying and interpreting technical data.

  • Two (2) years of UH60 experience.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Perform 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.
  • Examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listen to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves.
  • Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
  • Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks.
  • Test engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration (Jetcal) tester, to locate source of malfunction.
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Remove engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck.
  • Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repair or replace defective engine parts and reassemble and install engine in aircraft.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
  • Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft.
  • Enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • May service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
  • May specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies.
  • May specialize in engine repair.
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
