About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic I (Power Plant) position requires a combination of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty to meet assigned missions. This role involves troubleshooting malfunctions in various aircraft systems, including structures, landing gear, flight controls, anti-icing, pneudraulics, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation/heating systems. The mechanic will repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures and components using a variety of tools and equipment. This includes interpreting technical manuals and specifications to perform repairs, replacing worn or damaged components, and disassembling/inspecting engines. The position also involves servicing aircraft, performing inspections, and maintaining maintenance records. A Federal Aviation Administration license may be required, along with specialization in areas like sheet metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems.

Requirements

  • Must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Removes engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembles and inspects parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairs or replaces defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
  • Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft.
  • Enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • Services engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
  • Specializes in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specializes in engine repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
  • Ability to perform general Organizational Level maintenance.
  • Possesses one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft: Power plant, Mechanical Flight Control Systems, Blade/Pylon Fold systems, Dynamic Components, Fuel and Air Systems, and related Sub-systems.
  • Knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and basic supply procedures.
  • Experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and ensuring adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Possesses a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.
  • Previously attended Aviation Machinist Mate (AD) “A” School or equivalent.
  • Two years aviation maintenance experience required.
  • Basic Corrosion Control Course.
  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Weekend shift as required.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule Mon-Fri ,Sun-Thur and Fri-Mon as required.
  • Shall be able to travel in support of detachment operations as required.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.
  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
  • Satisfactory completion National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check with written Inquires (ANACI).
  • Must be eligible for a Common Access Card (CAC).

Nice To Haves

  • Five or more years’ experience as Aviation Machinist Mate (AD)
  • Five or more years rotary wing maintenance experience
  • Attended H-60 Type Model Series Initial training course
  • Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for Line, Corrosion Control and Power Plant
  • Automated Track and Balancing System (ATABS) Course (NATEC provides)
  • Previously certified in the Aircraft Confined Space Entry Program
  • Previously certified H-60 Plane Captain
  • Previously certified H-60 Landing Signal Enlisted (LSE)

Responsibilities

  • Performs aircraft maintenance functions of the Line, Corrosion Control, Tool Room and Aircraft Organizational Level maintenance and flight testing support.
  • Provides scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned MH-60S aircraft.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, pneumatic, hydraulic, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft components/sub components to include rigging of flight control.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Performs phase, scheduled, unscheduled, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.
  • Performs preflight, thru flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, launch and recover aircraft, and Preventive Maintenance Daily Inspections.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).
  • Operates and inspects Support Equipment (SE).
  • Uses chemical treatment process to etch and alodine parts.
  • Applies chemical sealants.
  • Requisitions repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through the military supply system.
  • Performs general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment.
  • Performs shift work and/or overtime as required.
  • Performs other tasks as directed.
