About The Position

Aircraft Mechanics I are responsible for repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical systems of moderate difficulty to meet assigned missions. They perform repairs on aircraft under the direction of higher-graded workers. This role involves troubleshooting malfunctions in various aircraft systems, including structures, landing gear, flight surfaces, controls, anti-icing, pneudraulics, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation/heating systems. Mechanics will repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures and components using a variety of tools and equipment. They must interpret technical manuals and specifications to determine repair methods. Specific duties include repairing or replacing worn or damaged components, removing and inspecting engines, adjusting electrical systems, performing various inspections (preflight, thru-flight, post-flight), servicing aircraft components, and maintaining aircraft in safe operating condition. Specialization in structural, precision, or functional spare parts and assemblies, as well as engine repair, may be required. Federal Aviation Administration licensing and specialization in areas like sheet-metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems may be required.

Requirements

Combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty.
Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
Ability to perform general Organizational Level maintenance.
Knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs.
Knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
Experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy.
Ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.
Two or more years’ rotary aircraft maintenance experience.
Must achieve Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) AH-1Z & UH-1Y designation for DOL Skill within 90 days of hire.
Must be able to work shift maintenance as required.
Must be able work flexible work-week schedules as required.
Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and work on top of and below aircraft.
Must be able to use hand and power tools.
Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.
Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check.
Must be eligible for Common Access Card (CAC).

Five or more years rotary wing maintenance experience
Previously certified Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for Line and/or Power Plants
Completed NATEC Course Automated Track and Balancing System (ATABS)
Basic Corrosion Control
Previously certified Hydraulic Contamination
Previously certified H-1 Plane Captain
May be required to be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration.
May require specialization in sheet-metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines.
Possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft: Blade/Pylon Fold, Power Plants and related Sub-Systems, Fuel and Air Systems, Rotor Systems, and related Sub-systems.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units.
Reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
Repairs or replaces worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves.
Removes engine from aircraft, disassembles and inspects parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairs or replaces defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft.
Enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily.
Services engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
Specializes in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specializes in engine repair.
Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs.
Lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives.
Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required.
May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.
Processes Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF) from aircrew or maintenance technicians.
Performs all other required duties as applicable and assigned by supervision.
Performs aircraft organizational level maintenance functions on H-1 aircraft.
Provides scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned H-1 aircraft.
Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation.
Maintains aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned readiness posture.
Performs aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means.
Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, pneumatic, hydraulic, ventilation and heating, flight surfaces and controls, dynamic components, and powerplant systems.
Uses hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment.
Inspects, repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft components/sub components to include rigging of flight control.
Performs confined space operations to include fuel cell entry.
Performs Support Equipment (SE) operation and inspections.
Requisitions repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.
Performs general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment.
Performs shift work and/or overtime as required.
Performs other tasks as directed.
