About The Position

Aircraft Mechanics I are responsible for a combination of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty to meet assigned missions. They make repairs to aircraft and follow the direction of higher-graded workers. This role involves troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic systems, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems. The mechanic will repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures and functional components using various tools and equipment. They will interpret maintenance manuals, technical data, and engineering data to determine repair methods. Specific duties include replacing worn or damaged components, removing and disassembling engines for inspection and repair, adjusting and repairing electrical wiring systems, performing various maintenance inspections, and servicing aircraft components. The role also includes supervising aircraft jacking and towing, maintaining maintenance records, and performing repairs to keep aircraft in safe operating condition. Specialization in structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, as well as engine repair, is involved. A Federal Aviation Administration license may be required, with potential specialization in sheet-metal, electric work, avionics, or other aircraft systems.

Requirements

  • Aviation Electrician (AE) or Electronics Technician (AT) “A” school or equivalent
  • Basic corrosion control course
  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd , 3rd or Weekend shift as required
  • Must be able work flexible work-week schedules i.e. Mon-Fri, Sun-Thur, Fri-Mon or as required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check with written Inquiries (ANACI) resulting in eligibility for a SECRET clearance which shall be required of employees assigned to perform: Maintaining MH-60S Avionics Systems. Handling and/or storage of COMSEC equipment.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.
  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
  • Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.
  • Knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and basic supply procedures.
  • Experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years’ experience performing avionic maintenance
  • Three or more years rotary wing maintenance experience
  • Attended H-60 Type Model Series Initial training course
  • Familiarity and ability to use military tech manuals.
  • Four years’ experience with NALCOMIS/OOMA
  • Automated Track and Balancing System (ATABS) Course (NATEC provides)
  • Previously certified Electronic Key Management System (EKMS) user.
  • Previously certified H-60 Plane Captain
  • Previously certified H-60 Landing Signal Enlisted (LSE)

Responsibilities

  • Performs aircraft maintenance functions of the Line, Corrosion Control, Tool Room and Aircraft Organizational Level maintenance and flight testing support.
  • Provides scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned MH-60S aircraft.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft electrical and avionics on flight controls, pneumatic, hydraulic, powerplant, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft components/sub components.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, wiring schematics, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Performs phase, scheduled, unscheduled, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.
  • Performs preflight, thru flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, launch and recover aircraft, and Preventive Maintenance Daily Inspections.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).
  • Operates and inspects Support Equipment (SE).
  • Uses chemical sealants.
  • Performs general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment.
  • Requisitions repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.
  • Performs shift work and/or overtime as required.
  • Performs other tasks as directed.
