About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic I (Avionics) performs general organizational level maintenance and specialized tasks on KC-130J aircraft. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and rebuilding various aircraft systems including engines, sheet metal, structural components, hydraulics, and electrical systems. The mechanic will interpret technical manuals, perform inspections, and maintain detailed maintenance records. Additionally, the position requires corrosion control expertise and the ability to serve as a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) in accordance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program. The role demands a strong understanding of aircraft systems, technical directives, and supply procedures, with an emphasis on writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Previously Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for Power Plants Systems.
  • Aircraft Corrosion Control (N-701-0013) certification.
  • Must be eligible for Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Must be deployable to locations Outside Continental U.S. (OCONUS).
  • Respirator fit qualified.
  • Aircraft tow qualifications or equivalent.
  • Experience with aircraft powerline maintenance.
  • Trained and qualified as Collateral Duty Inspectors (CDI) in accordance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program 4790 and all local and command requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
  • Ability to perform general Organizational Level maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs.
  • Knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
  • Experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy.
  • Exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.
  • Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs.
  • Lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives.
  • Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required.
  • May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.

Nice To Haves

  • 7 years or more of Organizational level maintenance.
  • 5 years or more maintenance experience on KC-130J aircraft.
  • NALCOMIS OOMA Familiarization/Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management Course (Course D/E-555-0053 OR A COMBINATION OF NALCOMIS OOMA Familiarization Course (Course D/E-555-0054) and Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Course (Course D/E-555-0040)).
  • Previously Safe For Flight certified.
  • Previously Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) for Airframes, Power Plants, and/or Avionics Systems.
  • Qualified as Vibration Analysis Operator/Interpreter.
  • Tire and Wheel certified.
  • Hydraulic Contamination.
  • APU Operator.
  • Aircraft Tow qualifications as wing walker, Tow Supervisor, and driver.
  • Aircraft paint and final finish.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units.
  • Reads and interprets maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and other specifications to determine repair methods.
  • Repairs or replaces worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes.
  • Removes engines from aircraft, disassembles, inspects parts for defects, and repairs or replaces defective engine parts.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft.
  • Enters maintenance records description of work performed and verifies satisfactory completion.
  • Services engines and airframe components at line station, making repairs short of overhaul.
  • Specializes in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and engine repair.
  • Performs corrosion control, detection, and abatement/repair.
  • Maintains assigned aircraft/aeronautical equipment to meet or exceed requirements.
  • Provides scheduled and unscheduled Organizational (O-Level) Maintenance Support.
  • Manages Maintenance Control planning.
  • Documents aircraft maintenance actions via records, forms, and electronic means.
  • Operates and inspects Support Equipment.
  • Performs aircraft inspections.
  • Performs aircraft movement.
  • Performs corrosion control/aircraft painting.
  • Performs troubleshooting.
  • Performs preservation and de-preservation.
  • Performs general aircraft maintenance.
  • Ensures Technical Directive compliance and modifications.
  • Initiates and completes Maintenance Action Forms via Optimized Organizational Maintenance Activity (OOMA) or hard copy.
  • Performs duties as Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for Airframes, Power Plants, and Avionics Systems.
  • Operates and interprets Vibration Analysis.
  • Performs tire and wheel maintenance.
  • Manages hydraulic contamination.
  • Operates APUs.
  • Performs general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), and maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
