The Aircraft Mechanic I (Avionics) position requires a combination of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical systems of moderate difficulty to meet assigned missions. This role involves troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces, controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic systems, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation/heating systems. The mechanic will repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures and functional components using various tools and equipment. This involves reading and interpreting technical manuals, service bulletins, and engineering data to determine repair methods. Specific duties include replacing worn or damaged components like carburetors, alternators, and fuel pumps, as well as removing, inspecting, repairing, and reinstalling engines. The role also involves adjusting and repairing electrical wiring systems, performing various aircraft inspections (preflight, thru-flight, post-flight), and servicing aircraft components. The mechanic will supervise aircraft jacking and towing, maintain maintenance records, and perform repairs short of overhaul to ensure safe operation. Specialization in structural, precision, or functional spare parts and assemblies, as well as engine repair, may be required. The position may require specialization in sheet-metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems. The role is equivalent to a Marine Corps Collateral Duty Inspector. Additional requirements for corrosion control personnel include respirator fit qualification, Aircraft Corrosion Control certification, and aircraft tow qualifications.
