About The Position

Innovative Consulting & Management Services (ICMS) is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic Helper for the Disassembly Phase of the Program Depot Maintenance (PDM) process for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Aviation Logistics Center (ALC). This role supports the Short-Range Recovery (SRR) Division, ensuring aircraft remain in top condition through complete overhauls every four years. The PDM process involves complete disassembly, cleaning, repair, repainting, and rebuilding of aircraft. The helper will assist in the disassembly of aircraft and major components, prepare them for blast, and route required parts. This position also involves performing other aircraft mechanical duties as needed throughout the ALC. The primary responsibilities include conducting the Disassembly Phase of the PDM process, which involves the complete disassembly of the aircraft and preparation for blast within six workdays of receipt. Routing of required parts will be completed no later than nine workdays of receipt of the aircraft. When the Disassembly Phase is complete and before receiving another aircraft, the position holder will perform other aircraft mechanical duties for the SRR Product Line or throughout ALC. This includes assisting in the disassembly of aircraft or major components for overhaul or modification, selecting and using appropriate tools and supplies to remove major components, reading blueprints and sketches to understand part functions, and discussing work plans with lead personnel. The role also involves routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools, and supplies, lifting and holding materials, and cleaning work areas and equipment. Cleaning aircraft interior and exterior parts, assisting flight line mechanics, and working as part of a team under the direction of higher-grade employees are also part of the duties. Other Aircraft Mechanic Helper duties as required will also be performed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year aircraft related mechanical experience.
  • Ability to operate power and/or hand tools and equipment such as pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, torque wrenches, micrometers, go-no-go gauges, multi-meters, feeler gauges and tension meters.
  • Proper use of tools and equipment and the duties performed require continual care and attention to both to avoid accidents and to finish the work properly.
  • Ability to remember directions and sequences for work assignments not detailed in the workbook or in Maintenance Procedure Cards.
  • With appropriate training and experience, the employee must develop the ability to read, understand and apply trade or administrative guides such as technical manuals, technical orders, blueprints, sketches, and other related documentation.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to follow appropriate safety procedures common to the trade.
  • Knowledge of specific hazardous materials and hazardous wastes procedures, including fitting and usage of protective gear and completion of related training.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Shall be citizens of the U.S.
  • Possess computer skills to include a basic knowledge sufficient to complete internet searches and prepare/edit documents utilizing word processing or spreadsheet applications.
  • Shall be capable of using cumbersome Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting the Disassembly Phase of the PDM process, including complete disassembly of the aircraft and preparation for blast within six (6) workdays of receipt of the aircraft.
  • Routing of required parts throughout the Disassembly Phase, completed no later than nine (9) workdays of receipt of aircraft.
  • Performing other aircraft mechanical duties for the SRR Product Line and/or throughout Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) when the Disassembly Phase is completed and prior to receipt of another aircraft.
  • Assisting in the disassembly of aircraft or major components for overhaul or modification.
  • Observing work processes and, after appropriate instruction, selecting tools and supplies for proper usage to assist in removal of major components of aircraft structure or systems.
  • Reading blueprints and sketches to understand the functions of the parts or units and discussing with lead personnel how to plan and carry out work.
  • Performing routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools and supplies to mechanic, lifting and holding materials in place during operation, and cleaning work areas and machines, tools and equipment.
  • Cleaning aircraft, interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions.
  • Assisting flight line mechanic in servicing and repairing aircraft prior to flight.
  • Working as part of a team, under the direction of higher-grade employees, to accomplish larger and more complex operations.
  • Performing other Aircraft Mechanic Helper duties as required.
