The NRC Flight Research Laboratory (FRL) operates a fleet of highly specialized research aircraft to meet the flight research needs of partners and clients in the Canadian aerospace sector. Engineering modifications to these aircraft are performed in-house, by highly qualified teams of designers, engineers and fabrication specialists. Maintenance is carried out by aircraft maintenance engineers (AMEs) and research projects are flown by qualified test pilots and supporting crew members. Working at the NRC Aerospace Research Centre (NRC-AERO) and reporting to the Manager, Aircraft Maintenance, the Aircraft Crew Chief is part of a team responsible for maintaining NRC research aircraft in accordance with approved maintenance procedures and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). The Aircraft Crew Chief may also participate in field deployments across Canada and internationally, supporting airborne research projects in collaboration with government, academic, and industry partners.
