About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is currently seeking Aircraft Assembly Mechanics (Level B or C) to support the 787-production system as an electrical, system, or seal/wing mechanic in North Charleston, South Carolina on a variable shift. This role offers an exciting opportunity within a dynamic manufacturing assembly environment. Team members will leverage their prior experience, along with the knowledge gained through foundational training and certifications, to complete daily assigned tasks safely and with quality. Individuals will be responsible for identifying parts and tooling within their work locations on advanced airplanes by interpreting technical drawings to accurately complete detailed work instructions. Attention to detail and strict compliance with procedures are critical to correctly identify all necessary hand tools, parts, and equipment required to ensure defect-free work. This position is physically demanding, and employment is contingent upon successful completion of foundational training requirements. Requirements

  • Must have the ability to work variable shifts (first, second, or third) based on business needs.
  • Must be able to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 35 pounds; push/pull using up to 45 pounds of force; and reach overhead up to six hours per day.
  • Must be able to work with high-hazard chemicals using proper protective equipment provided.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications, if required.
  • 1+ year experience using software applications such as internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or other specialized computer applications.
  • 1+ year experience following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications, along with successful completion of training and knowledge assessments involving mathematical calculations, all conducted in English.
  • 1+ year experience in a manufacturing, technical, or mechanical field, including equivalent education or military experience, performing work with basic hand, power, and/or pneumatic (air) tools.

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, technical, or mechanical field, including equivalent education or military service.
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace installing various aircraft system components such as tubing, valves, regulators, actuators, compressors, ducts, and interior components.
  • 3+ years of experience in Automotive/Diesel/Heavy equipment mechanical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with wire routing, dressing, hook-up/mating connections.
  • 3+ years of experience applying sealant to required surfaces per specifications.

  • Proficient use of a computer in a dynamic production environment. Look up/read/comprehend electronic technical work instructions, drawings and/or specifications.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment determined by the task performed.
  • Operate various mechanical lifts (e.g. ladders, tiger and snorkel lifts).
  • Use various hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as screwdrivers, ratchets, power screwdriver multi meters, continuity testers.
  • Install various aircraft system components and wiring such as: tubing, valves, regulators, actuators, compressors, ducts, and interior components.
  • Route wire harnesses to supports, install connectors to receptacles and electronic components.
  • Fiber optic clean and inspection, light loss testing, routing and installation.
  • Apply chemical solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints and special finishes.
  • Work in confined space and respirator usage.
  • Inspect your work quality and check for Foreign Object Debris.
  • Work around energized sources (electrical equipment and hazards/shock, e.g. circuit breakers and wiring) and exposure to constant noise.
  • Finger manipulation (keyboarding, other).
  • Lifting and carrying up to 10-35 pounds.
  • Climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), Crawling, Crouching (squatting).
  • Flexion/Extension (head bent down, head bent back), Handling, Kneeling, Bending at the waist, Reaching (overhead), Rotation of head/neck, Standing, Twisting at the waist and walking.
