About The Position

The Airborne Test Engineer provides engineering expertise for the test and evaluation of air-launched air-to-surface weapons and associated equipment. The role supports developmental, engineering, operational, and joint test and evaluation programs involving air-to-surface and air-to-air weapons, aircraft fire control, and avionics integration. The engineer applies engineering sciences, mathematics, and test techniques throughout test planning and execution. Responsibilities include planning, conducting, analyzing, and reporting on live-fire and captive-carry flight evaluations of air-launched munitions and related avionics systems; using models, simulations, hardware-in-the-loop, and open-air test facilities; and developing techniques, procedures, and methods for assigned test projects. The role develops, prepares, reviews, and establishes standards for test documentation and technical reporting, including Data Plans, Methods of Test, Test Cards, and Post Test Reports. It also provides technical expertise and guidance to leadership, systems engineers, less experienced engineers, and test personnel; manages engineering work for major programs across all test and evaluation phases; and represents the organization at conferences and with other commands, agencies, industry, and academia on conventional weapons testing and aircraft-weapon integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in airborne test engineering, weapons systems, or flight test operations.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Active Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with air-to-air weapons, munitions, or aircraft systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering expertise for testing and evaluating air-launched air-to-surface weapons and associated equipment.
  • Mentor team members and provide test management guidance as applicable.
  • Obtain and maintain test conductor qualification in accordance with applicable operational instructions.
  • Advise leadership on significant issues and problems related to test work accomplishment.
  • Support developmental, engineering, operational, and joint test and evaluation programs for air-to-surface and air-to-air weapons, aircraft fire control, and avionics integration.
  • Apply engineering sciences, mathematics, and test techniques to all phases of test planning and execution.
  • Provide recommendations and advice to less experienced engineers and test personnel.
  • Develop, prepare, and review Data Plans, Methods of Test, Test Cards, and Post Test Reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Represent the organization at conferences and with commands, agencies, and industry on test and evaluation of conventional weapons systems and compatibility with airborne, seaborne, or ground systems.
  • Serve as a technical expert on aircraft-weapon system integration for industry, academia, and government agencies.
  • Provide technical guidance to systems engineers to ensure program objectives are met.
  • Use the munitions test process and test facilities, including models and simulations, hardware-in-the-loop, and open-air facilities, to test system operation.
  • Plan, conduct, analyze, and report on live-fire and captive-carry flight evaluations of air-launched munitions and related avionics systems.
  • Develop techniques, procedures, and methods for conducting and reporting on assigned test projects.
  • Establish standards for test documentation and technical reporting.
  • Provide technical review of test directives, methods of test, data packages, letter reports, and technical reports.
  • Provide technical management and perform engineering duties for major programs across all phases of test and evaluation.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to leadership.
