About The Position
CareFlite is seeking a highly skilled Air Transport Float Nurse to provide advanced critical care to patients during air, ground, and specialty transport operations. This role is responsible for assessing patient conditions, performing advanced interventions, and ensuring safe and efficient transport across our service area. This position is ideal for experienced critical care nurses who thrive in dynamic, high-acuity environments and are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
Requirements
- Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 3 years of experience in critical care, emergency, or high-acuity nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred)
- Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in high-stress, fast-paced environments
- BCLS, ACLS, PALS
- Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment (up to 100 lbs. with assistance)
- Maximum weight of 230 lbs. in full flight gear
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces
- Exposure to loud noise, vibration, exhaust, rotating aircraft components, and bodily fluids
- Must pass background check, drug screening, physical assessment, and audiology testing
Nice To Haves
- ECMO experience
- Previous transport or flight nursing experience
- Advanced clinical certifications
- Additional certifications (NRP, TPATC or ATLS audit) required prior to completion of orientation
- Must maintain all required flight and critical care credentials
Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced critical care to critically ill or injured patients during transport
- Perform patient assessments and implement interventions within CareFlite’s clinical scope
- Collaborate with paramedics, pilots, dispatch, and healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, regulatory standards, and organizational policies
- Demonstrate strong situational awareness across air and ground environments
