About The Position

Air Traffic Controllers separate, organize and expedite the orderly flow of air traffic. The primary purposes of this position are: To learn and perform the primary functions of an air traffic controller at Beaver County Airport Control Tower. As expertise develops in the primary functions of an air traffic controller, apprentice to learn to train/educate Air Traffic Control students on how to separate, organize, and expedite the traffic flow at the Beaver County Airport in preparation for assuming duties as an Air Traffic Control Educational Specialist. Promotion to the position of Air Traffic Control Educational Specialist is contingent on certification recommendation from the tower manager, approval by the vice president of academic affairs/provost, and the availability of an Educational Specialist position.

Requirements

  • Facility rating for the Beaver County Control Tower.
  • Control Tower Operators certificate with a facility rating as per FAA FAR 65B
  • FAA Second Class Airman’s Medical Certificate as per FAA FAR 67.C.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of the Air Traffic Control system.
  • Thorough knowledge of Air Traffic Control regulations and phraseology.
  • Excellent communications and public relations skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, public, co-workers, and the press.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Air Traffic Control (ATC) from the Community College of Beaver County.
  • Current, active ATC program students may be considered for open positions with employment predicated on continued enrollment and progression in the ATC program.
  • Other candidates possessing any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be considered on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Air Traffic Control services for aircraft and vehicles operating on/in the vicinity of Beaver County Airport, and within the confines of the BVI Class D surface area.
  • Formulate, record, and disseminate surface aviation weather observations for Beaver County Airport.
  • Monitor and report any inappropriate activity or incidents inconsistent with institutional policy or FAA regulations.
  • Conduct control tower tours and explain facility operations.
  • Under supervision of an experienced Air Traffic Control Educational Specialist, conduct student training in preparation for facility certification by an FAA examiner.
  • Maintain all FAA and CCBC documentation for the operation of the control tower, to include student and supervisor briefings.
  • Perform other departmental related duties as required.
