About The Position

The Air Technician supports oil and gas field operations by setting up, inspecting, maintaining, and monitoring breathing-air equipment used where hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or other atmospheric hazards may be present. This position helps ensure breathing-air systems and respiratory equipment are ready for use and that personnel understand applicable equipment requirements and emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience with breathing-air systems, H2S safety services, or oil and gas field operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of compressed-gas cylinders, regulators, manifolds, supplied-air systems, SCBA, and gas-detection equipment.
  • Ability to recognize equipment problems, follow written procedures, and communicate clearly with field personnel.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record when operating company vehicles.
  • Ability to complete required company and customer training.
  • Required training may include H2S awareness, respiratory protection, breathing-air equipment operation, gas detection, First Aid/CPR, and applicable cylinder-transport requirements.
  • Employees assigned to wear respirators must complete the required medical evaluation, fit testing, and training before use.

Responsibilities

  • Transport, set up, and secure breathing-air cascade systems, cylinders, manifolds, regulators, hose reels, and air hoses at job locations.
  • Inspect systems for leaks, damage, proper connections, adequate pressure, and operational readiness before use and throughout the job.
  • Inspect and maintain self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), supplied-air respirators, and emergency escape packs according to manufacturer instructions and company procedures.
  • Verify breathing-air quality documentation, cylinder inspection and testing status, and required equipment service records.
  • Monitor available air supply and coordinate cylinder replacement or refilling through approved providers.
  • Position hoses and equipment to protect them from damage and minimize trip hazards, vehicle interference, and obstructions to emergency access.
  • Perform atmospheric monitoring and gas-detector checks, including bump testing and calibration, when assigned and trained.
  • Participate in site orientations, pre-job safety meetings, Job Safety Analyses, and emergency response planning.
  • Explain equipment operation, limitations, alarm signals, and emergency procedures within the technician’s training and assigned responsibilities.
  • Communicate unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, and changes in atmospheric conditions to the supervisor and site personnel.
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority when conditions or equipment are unsafe.
  • Support evacuation and emergency response within established procedures and the technician’s training. Perform rescue duties only when specifically trained, equipped, and authorized.
  • Maintain inspection logs, equipment inventories, service records, and job documentation.
  • Clean, inspect, and properly store equipment after each job; remove defective equipment from service.
  • Follow company, customer, and applicable transportation requirements when moving cylinders and equipment between locations.
