About The Position

This position is structured trainee work inspecting, monitoring, and supporting enforcement actions for facilities to ensure they follow all air quality laws and standards. It helps reduce and prevent pollution, improve safety, and support clear communication with communities and industry partners. This includes demolition and asbestos removal operations. As an Air Quality Specialist Trainee, you will learn and perform the following duties: Compliance Monitoring: Schedule, plan, and conduct on-site inspections to observe facility operations and write reports to document compliance or noncompliance and background information Complaint Investigation: Investigate air pollution complaints and document results Ambient Sampling: Collect samples of fuel oil, volatile organic compounds, coal, and other materials; recommend sampling strategies; and monitor stack tests conducted by consultants Data Management: Review, update, and verify accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity of all electronic data system entries Enforcement: Write notices and requests to communicate noncompliance; recommend, help plan, and assist with corrective actions; and participate in meetings to address concerns Professional Development: Participate in knowledge management and transfer efforts, collaborative activities with other Bureau offices, job-related training, and more.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
