About The Position

Performs air item maintenance including unpacking, inspection, repair, alteration, and modification of personnel and cargo parachutes and their associated equipment, and operates and maintains heavy-duty industrial sewing machines in support of E Co, 189th DSSB, 82nd Airborne Division. Work is performed in accordance with TM 10-1670 series technical manuals.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a DoD-approved Parachute Rigger Course (MOS 92R equivalent)
  • Skilled in 100% TRI inspection, fabric and canvas maintenance, and radial seam patching
  • Skilled in the operation and maintenance of 10 to 12 heavy-duty industrial sewing machines
  • U.S. citizen; compliant with AR 750-32; able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Able to pass a background check for installation access and pass initial and random drug screening
  • Able to carry at least 50 pounds for 50 yards
  • No physical limitations that prevent performance of the PWS duties
  • Able to become fully qualified under the E Co SOP within six weeks (42 working days) of onboarding

Responsibilities

  • Perform 100% Technical Rigger Inspection (TRI) and production-line parachute inspection
  • Unpack, inspect, and examine canopies, suspension lines, risers, harnesses, and packs for wear and damage
  • Replace, splice, and repair suspension lines and resew and reconstruct canopy portions
  • Rebuild and patch radial seams and replace panels, gores, apex lines, and vent lines
  • Modify and repair harnesses, pack trays, and deployment bags, including installing grommets, snaps, and eyelets
  • Set up, operate, retime, and maintain 10 to 12 heavy-duty industrial sewing machines
  • Conduct parachute drying tower operations
  • Inventory supplies and submit Class II, Class IX, and local purchase requisitions
