This position works within Mecklenburg County’s air quality division and performs education and outreach on behalf of the North Carolina Division of Air Quality. The Air Awareness Coordinator must be able to communicate complicated scientific information in a straightforward, easy-to-understand way. The Air Awareness Coordinator works at community events, which regularly requires early-morning, evening, or weekend work. The ideal candidate has strong time management and organizational skills and has experience building successful partnerships. A bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences with coursework in communication, marketing, or education is ideal for this position. Preference may be given to candidates who can speak or write in Spanish, or both. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required. This is an exempt (salaried) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job. Note: The Air Awareness Coordinator position is funded through a grant from the North Carolina Division of Air Quality and the continuation of the position is subject to grant renewal.
