About The Position

An Air/Asbestos Sampling Technician at H2M architects + engineers supports active asbestos abatement projects and is responsible for conducting air monitoring and sampling in accordance with New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) regulations. This role involves working closely with project managers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and safety throughout the abatement process. H2M's Industrial Hygiene team helps clients identify, evaluate, and manage environmental and occupational health hazards. From assessing asbestos, chemicals, lead, mold, and other contaminants to supporting regulatory compliance, our scientists and technicians deliver practical solutions that promote safe and healthy environments.

Requirements

  • NYS Asbestos Air Sampling Technician Certification (Required).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs of equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Must be able to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.

Nice To Haves

  • 0 to 2 years of experience in environmental field work or asbestos monitoring is strongly preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform air sampling and project monitoring during asbestos abatement activities in accordance with NYSDOL regulations.
  • Operate and maintain air sampling equipment (e.g., pumps, cassettes, calibration devices).
  • Document field activities, sample locations, and conditions in detailed field logs.
  • Coordinate with abatement contractors, site supervisors, and clients to ensure proper sampling protocols.
  • Collect and submit samples to certified laboratories for analysis.
  • Prepare daily field reports and assist in the development of final project documentation.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies and assist in compliance-related correspondence.
  • Assist with other environmental field tasks as needed (e.g., site inspections).
