About The Position

This position involves clerical, instructional, and student-care duties as assigned. The aide will support the instructional program, assist with student records and data collection, and help prepare and maintain instructional materials and equipment. They will also assist with teacher-planned activities, provide support with student self-care, and help implement therapy programs, which may involve lifting and positioning students. The role also includes providing orientation to substitute teachers, physically prompting students, and performing other assigned duties, including SHARS duties and personal care as identified in student IEPs.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
  • College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the ParaPro test) for Non-Title I campus
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)
  • Additional Qualification for Title I Campus: College hours, 48 minimum or score of 464 on the ParaPro test

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
