About The Position

Provides instructional and student-care duties as assigned, focusing on supporting students with disabilities, particularly in adaptive behavior protocols. This role involves assisting teachers with instructional programs, data collection, material preparation, and direct student support, including self-care and physical prompting. The position requires adherence to special education policies and may involve managing disruptive students.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus (48 required) or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test.
  • College hours, high school diploma or GED for Non-Title I campus.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate (can be obtained after employment).
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment).

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self-care activities such as toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the adaptive behavior protocol.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
