About The Position

This position provides clerical and student-care assistance as assigned within the Structured HCAP program in Katy. The aide will support special education teachers in implementing instructional programs, assisting with student training, data collection, and ensuring student well-being. This role requires maintaining effective working relationships, handling confidential information, and potentially assisting with non-medical procedures and student transportation.

Requirements

  • 15 College hours or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the ParaPro test)
  • Communicate and work with students with disabilities
  • Maintain effective working relationships
  • Minimum clerical skills
  • Good physical and emotional condition
  • Work with confidential material and student records
  • Paraprofessional Educational Aide II certificate required
  • Have a CDL or willing to earn one in the first year of employment

Responsibilities

  • Assist special education teachers in implementing instructional program for students.
  • Assist in employability and daily living training in the community setting.
  • Assist in the transportation of students in the community setting.
  • Assist in collecting data and maintaining confidential student records and charts for determining student progress.
  • Assist with self-care of students, including toileting, bathing, feeding, etc.
  • Assist in implementing activities recommended by support and related service personnel.
  • Assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies.
  • Assist in implementing recommended assistive technology devices to support programming.
  • Assist in carrying out all activities as described in the student’s IEP under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Assist teachers in preparing and duplicating instructional materials.
  • Assist with maintaining/cleaning equipment needs for student program.
  • Assist in providing non-medical procedures such as tube feeding and other interventions as necessary for the student.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
