This position assists the teacher with instructional needs as appropriate. The role involves adhering to federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to special education paraprofessionals and child care facilities. The aide will participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities, assist in carrying out the instructional program, and help maintain confidential student records and data for determining student progress. Responsibilities also include assisting in the preparation, use, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment, and assisting with teacher-planned activities, exercises, and drills. The aide will also assist students in self-care activities such as feeding and toileting, and help implement therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning. Attending professional meetings as required, assisting in implementing behavior intervention strategies, and providing non-medical procedures such as feeding tubes and other interventions as necessary for the student are also key duties. The role provides instructional support and implements instructional accommodations for students. Other duties as assigned, including SHARS duties, and providing Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs, are also part of the role.
