About The Position

Alaffia is a healthtech startup focused on reducing waste in the U.S. health insurance system through AI-powered claims operations. As the Internal AI Lead, you will be responsible for driving the company's internal AI transformation. This role involves identifying areas of inefficiency, building AI tools and agents to improve workflows, and enabling teams across the organization to operate more effectively. You will work with various departments, including clinical operations, payment integrity, utilization management, appeals, product, and go-to-market teams, to identify bottlenecks and implement AI solutions. Additionally, you will help establish foundational AI infrastructure, including systems, libraries, standards, and governance frameworks, to support Alaffia's growth. The position requires a proactive approach to auditing workflows, translating operational challenges into a prioritized roadmap with clear ROI, and designing/deploying AI solutions using a combination of code and no-code tools. You will own these solutions from prototype to production. A key aspect of this role is driving AI adoption by acting as an internal AI platform, conducting enablement sessions, creating documentation, and fostering AI fluency among staff. You will also establish operational rigor by defining success metrics, tracking performance, and demonstrating business impact. Building Alaffia's AI foundations involves developing documentation, agent libraries, SOPs, and governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulations like HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC-II.

Requirements

  • AI-native builder with deep, demonstrated experience using AI to build, ship, and accelerate work.
  • Ability to take an ambiguous problem and deliver a working solution.
  • Fluent with low-code/no-code and developer tools (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.), SQL and BI tools, APIs, scripting, and integrations.
  • Ability to build solutions (not necessarily a full-stack engineer).
  • Analytical and empathetic problem-solver.
  • Ability to partner with clinical and operations teams to understand their challenges.
  • Ability to use data to prioritize opportunities and measure impact with rigor and empathy.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Ability to manage expectations and maintain alignment across competing priorities.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate operational or clinical requirements into precise technical specs.
  • Systems builder: naturally create clarity out of chaos — writing SOPs, building templates, defining standards, and structuring knowledge.
  • Mission-driven and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Thrive in fast-paced startup environments where priorities shift and you need to figure things out on the fly.
  • High agency, move fast, and care deeply about the mission.
  • 3–6 years of experience in product management, product operations, forward-deployed or solutions engineering, technical program management, or a similar role where you have solved real operational problems with technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted internal partner to every team at Alaffia, proactively auditing their workflows to surface the highest-impact AI and automation opportunities.
  • Translate operational pain points into a prioritized roadmap with clear ROI, keeping the long-term mission (better outcomes for payers, providers, and patients) front of mind.
  • Design and deploy AI-powered agents, apps, and workflows using a mix of code and no-code tools.
  • Own solutions end-to-end, from prototype to production, without waiting for a dedicated engineering team.
  • Act as the internal AI platform for all of Alaffia’s teams.
  • Run enablement sessions, create documentation, and build champions who sustain impact.
  • Meet teams where they are and help them build AI fluency in a way that feels accessible and safe.
  • Define success metrics for every initiative.
  • Track performance, measure adoption, and demonstrate business impact with clarity and honesty.
  • Iterate based on data and feedback.
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement backed by evidence.
  • Develop the core AI primitives: documentation, agent libraries, SOPs, and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure everything built accounts for the regulatory and compliance environment (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC-II).
