About The Position

Peregrine Advisors is seeking a motivated AI Systems Engineer to build the backend services and secure APIs for a federal agency's application processing system. This role involves transforming a manual, document-heavy process into an automated, fast, and secure system using Python, FastAPI, and AWS services. The position is based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and requires regular commuting. Requirements

• Strong Python skills.
• Hands-on experience building secure REST APIs (FastAPI or similar) on AWS.
• Backend fundamentals including PostgreSQL, authentication and access control.
• Experience with clean, automated delivery.
• Judgment to build in a regulated federal environment where security and auditability are critical.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.

Responsibilities

• Build backend services and REST APIs in Python and FastAPI.
• Develop cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS), including Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, and S3.
• Implement PostgreSQL for data storage and manage identity securely.
• Contribute to the development of new capabilities, tools, and lines of business for the firm.
• Ensure security and auditability in a regulated federal environment.
