About The Position

The AI Solutions Delivery Lead serves as the technical leader within the AI Strategy & Adoption group. This role is responsible for AI capability research, strategy, light delivery (proofs-of-concept and lightweight integrations), and vendor partnership coordination for substantive AI implementations. This position works in close coordination with the Digital Workplace Learning & Adoption Manager, who handles the agency-wide AI fluency and adoption scope. Together, these two roles form the AI Strategy & Adoption group’s leadership, reporting directly to the CIO. This position is located in the Office of Information Technology.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, information technology, mathematics, statistics, management information science or a related field and experience in telecommunications, data processing and/or information technology.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in technology roles with demonstrated AI/ML exposure.
  • Strong awareness of current AI capabilities across major platforms (OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google) and vendor offerings.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools and platforms — comfortable building proofs-of-concept, evaluating AI solutions, and doing prompt engineering work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders and agency leadership.
  • Experience with applied AI/ML in production or near-production settings (RAG systems, document automation, AI-assisted workflows).
  • Experience coordinating AI vendor engagements or managing AI-related procurements.
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, responsible AI practices, and data privacy considerations (FERPA).
  • Experience in state government, K–12 education or similarly regulated environments.
  • Experience with Python, Azure AI services, or modern AI development tooling.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Track emerging AI capabilities, vendor offerings, and best practices relevant to the agency’s mission.
  • Evaluate AI platforms, tools, and services for agency use — including LLM platforms, AI coding tools, document automation, and data analysis capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain the agency’s AI strategy in coordination with the CIO.
  • Advise the CIO and agency leadership on AI opportunities, risks, and investment priorities.
  • Execute hands-on delivery of lightweight AI integrations, proofs-of-concept, and pilot projects.
  • Build and demonstrate AI-powered tools for agency use cases (document automation, data query assistance, reporting automation, workflow optimization).
  • Coordinate with Tech Delivery teams when AI work intersects with application delivery.
  • Evaluate and validate AI solutions before broader deployment.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and partners for substantive AI implementations that exceed light delivery scope.
  • Manage vendor evaluation, SOW development, and engagement oversight for AI-related procurements.
  • Serve as internal subject-matter expert on AI vendor landscape and procurement considerations.
  • Support the CIO in AI governance and policy — including AI acceptable use policy operationalization, vendor evaluation standards, and alignment with state and federal guidance.
  • Coordinate with the Digital Workplace Learning & Adoption Manager on agency-facing AI communication, training content, and adoption program substance.
  • Participate in AI tool standardization and AI champions network activities.
