AI Software Engineer, Backend (SF)

Loop•San Francisco, CA
•$145,000 - $225,000•Onsite

About The Position

As an AI backend engineer, you will work closely with founders and customers to understand and solve logistics billing and payment pain points. You will ship features that directly impact customers, using AI both to build products and to create systems that let AI agents and non-technical users deliver technical work that previously required an engineer. The role focuses on solving categories of problems rather than isolated one-off features. You will take on complex technical challenges with guidance and feedback from the team, and help shape Loop’s culture and growth. The role works across product components, including frontend, backend, infrastructure, and the AI stack. The technology environment includes AWS, CDK, Fargate ECS, TypeScript, Node.js, Prisma, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, GraphQL, React, Relay, Ant Design, Vite, LLMs, prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and Loop’s internal AI platform. The base salary range is $145,000 to $225,000 annually. The role may be eligible for equity and is eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) match, paid time off, paid holidays, and parental leave. Loop may provide employment visa sponsorship; green card sponsorship may also be available based on business needs and eligibility requirements.

Requirements

  • At least two years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience with TypeScript and tools such as GraphQL, Relay, React, and Node.js.
  • Experience at early-stage companies shipping products end-to-end and taking on varied responsibilities.
  • Excitement about building with AI and applying it to real customer problems; prior AI or machine learning background is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and sales to understand requirements and ship thoughtful solutions.
  • Build and ship the AI harness, including data pipelines, schemas, validation, and feedback loops that allow agents to work reliably at scale.
  • Focus on outcomes by curating the harness, data, and success criteria rather than prescribing specific logic, and let agents write and validate work against real data.
  • Write high-quality, extensible code across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and the AI stack.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain a high bar for engineering excellence.
  • Lead discussions and documentation to communicate and reach the best technical design.
