About The Position

VEG is looking for an AI Security Engineer who is excited about securing AI and has a mindset of an attacker and the skills of an engineer. This role is crucial for VEG's rapid adoption of AI, ensuring safety and enabling innovation. The AI Security Engineer will be the technical owner of AI security, responsible for assessing AI tools, hardening AI systems, and defending against AI-enabled threats. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape a new discipline from the ground up, combining offensive testing, detection, and secure design at the intersection of security and veterinary emergency medicine.

Requirements

2+ years in security engineering—application, cloud, or a related area (or equivalent experience).
Hands-on experience securing or building AI/LLM-based systems, and familiarity with their failure modes.
Understanding of the LLM attack surface—prompt injection, data exfiltration, and agent or tool misuse.
Comfort with AI platforms and APIs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI), SaaS security tooling, and identity providers like Okta.
Strong threat-modeling skills and the ability to explain AI risk to engineers and non-technical stakeholders alike.

Responsibilities

Assess AI tools, models, agents, and integrations before adoption, analyzing data flows, connector and plugin risk, and testing for prompt injection and data leakage.
Implement and operate security controls on approved AI platforms, including access management, data loss prevention, logging, and usage monitoring.
Partner with Engineering to design AI features securely from the start.
Build and maintain AI security standards, threat models, and incident response playbooks.
Enforce AI risk tiers and maintain an inventory of AI usage across the company.
Advise teams on secure, practical ways to adopt AI.
