About The Position

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented candidate to assist with aquaculture and fisheries research projects involving artificial intelligence (AI), live feed production, and juvenile fish nutrition studies. This position is temporary and does not offer sponsorship. The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is an 1890 Land-Grant HBCU dedicated to providing a high quality, affordable education with a personal touch. Requirements

  • Background or interest in computer science, aquaculture, fisheries, biology, animal science, or related fields.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Willingness to work in laboratories, hatchery, and field environments.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in artificial intelligence applications in aquaculture research is preferred.
  • Experience with fish culture or aquatic organisms is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and applying AI-based approaches for aquaculture research and fish production systems.
  • Support data collection, organization, and analysis for AI-driven aquaculture projects.
  • Assist with research activities involving AI applications in aquaculture and fisheries.
  • Culture and maintain Artemia (brine shrimp) live feeds for experimental use.
  • Conduct feeding trials comparing live feeds and artificial feeds in juvenile largemouth bass and catfish.
  • Monitor fish growth, survival, feeding behavior, and water quality parameters.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data.
  • Maintain laboratory and hatchery equipment and ensure proper sanitation protocols.
  • Assist with fish husbandry, tank maintenance, and daily feeding schedules.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and research documentation as needed.
