AI Product Engineer
About The Position
CareerMD serves physicians, residents, fellows, and healthcare employers through career events, a job board, a candidate database, and recruitment marketing. The company aims to use AI to increase the leverage of its teams and develop an intelligence system for physicians and employers. As the Founding AI Product Engineer, you will identify opportunities where AI can measurably improve CareerMD’s operations and product experience. Early work will likely focus on internal teams and operational bottlenecks, expanding to physician- and employer-facing intelligence as internal results demonstrate the model. You will work directly with the VP of Engineering and Product team in a high-ownership role, discovering, building, evaluating, shipping, learning, and iterating.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to design and ship systems end-to-end.
- Experience building and deploying real-world AI applications using LLMs, retrieval, embeddings, and agentic patterns.
- Experience building and running evaluation frameworks for AI products.
- Ability to identify high-leverage workflows through direct stakeholder interviews.
- A product mindset focused on user and business outcomes, not just technical output.
- At least 5 years of software development experience.
- At least 3 years shipping user-facing software with direct product ownership.
- At least 1 year shipping AI-powered applications to production.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related work experience.

- Experience shipping AI-native features into production with measurable outcomes.
- Experience building recommendation, ranking, or matching systems and the feedback loops that improve them.
- Experience designing systems that incorporate user behavior and feedback data.
- Experience in early-stage or high-ownership environments where the highest-value work is not always obvious.
