AI Product Engineer

FireworksSan Mateo, CA
$200,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Fireworks is seeking a product-minded engineer to join as a Member of Technical Staff. This role will own the development and implementation of key features for Fireworks Nexus, a platform designed to route AI workloads to open models, reducing costs and improving efficiency. The engineer will be responsible for the intelligent router, cost-observability and enterprise-control layers, FireConnect integrations, inference APIs, the developer console, and fine-tuning workflows. This is a high-autonomy individual contributor role on a small team, offering the opportunity to own features end-to-end, from problem understanding to shipping and iteration, with significant impact in a rapidly growing company at the forefront of enterprise AI.

Requirements

  • 3+ years as a software engineer, with meaningful time spent building and shipping user-facing products.
  • Strong full-stack skills, comfortable across frontend (React/TypeScript), backend (Python, Go, or similar), APIs, and databases.
  • A track record of shipping developer-facing products: APIs, dashboards, consoles, CLIs, or developer tools.
  • Genuine end-to-end ownership, comfortable scoping ambiguous problems and deploying fixes.
  • Strong product instincts, optimizing for developer experience.
  • Ability to operate at high velocity with extreme ownership, shipping fast and making pragmatic trade-offs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building products on top of complex infrastructure, inference platforms, cloud services, data platforms, or ML tooling.
  • Experience building for deeply technical users, where the product surface is an API as much as a UI.
  • Comfort in a fast-moving, founder-led environment where the product changes week to week.
  • Experience building with AI tools and a sharp intuition for a great AI developer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own product features end-to-end across Nexus and the broader Fireworks platform, including the intelligent router, FireConnect harness integrations, cost observability, enterprise controls and policy, the developer console, API surfaces, the model playground, fine-tuning workflows, and billing.
  • Build the routing and migration layer that scores request difficulty in real time and directs work to appropriate models, enabling significant cost reductions.
  • Make adoption frictionless by extending FireConnect and compatible APIs for seamless integration into existing tools.
  • Improve caching and infrastructure paths to achieve material cost savings.
  • Work across the full stack (frontend, backend services, APIs, data layers) to ship production-quality product surfaces for technical users.
  • Build for rapidly evolving products, including new models, serving paths, consumption models, enterprise controls, and multi-agent tooling.
  • Partner closely with Infrastructure, Applied Research, Growth, Data, and Design teams.
  • Instrument all built features and use data to identify and remove friction points.

Benefits

  • Solve Hard Problems: Tackle challenges at the forefront of AI infrastructure.
  • Build What’s Next: Work with bleeding-edge technology.
  • Ownership & Impact: Join a fast-growing team where your work directly shapes the future of AI.
  • Learn from the Best: Collaborate with world-class engineers and AI researchers.
  • Equal-opportunity employer status.
  • Inclusive environment for all innovators.
