AI Process Forward Deployed Engineer

Camunda
$119,900 - $193,200Remote

About The Position

Camunda is transforming into an AI-first organization, built on its own platform, using Agentic AI to automate and orchestrate intelligent processes. This role is for the first cohort of Forward Deployed Engineers for ProcessOS, a new Camunda product that describes business processes in natural language, generates executable BPMN workflows, and improves them autonomously from production data. The engineer will own the deployment journey from the first process file to a working, improving system, and will hand off a functioning capability to the customer’s team. The code written and patterns discovered will feed directly back into the development of ProcessOS. This is a unique opportunity to shape a product, a function, and a field practice from its inception. The role involves working end-to-end across Java services and React interfaces, collaborating with a global team to enhance performance and fault tolerance in distributed systems.

Requirements

  • Enterprise production experience: Proven track record of shipping and operating solutions within large organizations, understanding the importance of governance and resilience at scale.
  • Technical depth: Ability to debug integration failures, write custom agents for legacy APIs, set up Camunda clusters from scratch, and communicate technical concepts to both engineers and business leaders.
  • Stakeholder communication: Effective collaboration across engineering, architecture, and business leadership, with the ability to adapt communication style while maintaining precision.
  • Practical AI experience: Demonstrated use of AI to solve real-world production problems, including understanding of context management, prompt engineering, agent testing, and integration tradeoffs.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: Ability to make sound judgments without a predefined playbook and to document learnings.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Ability and/or willingness to use our product.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a customer-facing engineering or professional services role.
  • Familiarity with regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or insurance.
  • Production experience with agentic systems or AI-integrated workflows.
  • Contributions to a shared platform or open-source project.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and prove: Own the journey from first process file to production workflow, aiming for at least one workflow running with an active improvement loop and measurable fitness gains within 90 days, and 3-5 customers with viable deployments within 12 months.
  • Drive organizational adoption: Work with technical and business stakeholders to build understanding and trust, transforming early deployments into lasting customer capability.
  • Work at depth technically: Configure and run Camunda clusters locally and in cloud environments, debug integration failures, build custom agents when platform defaults are insufficient, and write connector logic to integrate legacy enterprise systems with ProcessOS.
  • Build the playbook: Document best practices and successful implementation strategies as they are discovered to accelerate future deployments.
  • Feed the product: Contribute custom agents and integration patterns back into the platform, and fix production bugs encountered during deployments.
  • Hand off deliberately: Ensure customers have a trained team capable of operating independently and acting on improvement results without ongoing external support.

Benefits

  • Competitive, fair, and transparent compensation with location-based salary ranges.
  • Equity through Virtual Stock Option Plan (VSOP).
  • Remote & Flexible work options: work from anywhere, home office budget, co-working space support, flexible time off.
  • In-Person Connection opportunities: Annual Kickoff, team offsites, Camundi Connection Budgets, meetups, and local gatherings.
  • Health & Wellbeing support: locally tailored healthcare, Modern Health for global mental wellbeing, Live Well Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) for various life aspects.
  • Financial Security: Retirement and pension plans (often with company contributions), life and disability insurance.
  • Professional Growth: Up to $/€/£1,000 per year for self-driven learning (courses, certifications, books).
