AI Orchestration Engineer Intern | Remote or Hybrid

US SignalGrand Rapids, MI
Hybrid

About The Position

US Signal is seeking a curious, motivated AI Orchestration Engineer Intern to join its core AI team. The intern will work directly alongside the AI Infrastructure team, gaining hands-on exposure to how modern AI applications are built and shipped. This role involves writing real code that will be integrated into the company's codebase, contributing to agentic workflows, and growing into a reliable contributor. The intern will take on scoped, meaningful engineering tasks within agentic application development efforts, learning about Small Language Models (SLMs) and stateful agents within a structured SDLC. They will build features for real users under the guidance of senior engineers, with success measured by shipping clean, tested code, asking insightful questions, and improving the codebase.

Requirements

  • Solid foundation in at least one modern programming language (Python strongly preferred), including data structures, control flow, and basic algorithms.
  • Comfortable with Git and collaborative workflows (branches, pull requests, code review).
  • Familiarity with LLMs/SLMs and genuine interest in agentic systems (production experience not required, but eagerness to learn is).
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to thrive in a smaller, agile team and treat every code review and bug as a chance to level up.
  • Comfortable with not knowing everything yet and iterating on imperfect work.
  • Ability to ask good questions, accept feedback well, and clearly explain work and challenges.
  • A builder at heart, genuinely excited about AI possibilities.
  • Ability to comply with information security policies.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Some exposure to Docker, REST APIs, or cloud environments is a plus; willingness to learn quickly matters more.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain features for agentic applications, writing clean, tested, and well-documented code.
  • Assist in developing and debugging components of agentic workflows, learning how stateful agents are structured, deployed, and monitored.
  • Write scripts and small utilities to improve developer experience, automate repetitive tasks, and support CI/CD pipelines.
  • Contribute to unit and integration tests, help triage bugs, and participate in code reviews.
  • Keep technical documentation current as features evolve.

Benefits

  • Paid internship with competitive hourly compensation
  • Hands-on mentorship from senior engineers and AI/ML practitioners
  • Real project ownership — your code ships
  • Exposure to a modern AI/ML tech stack in a production environment
  • Business casual work environment
