About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a senior engineer for a unique systems-to-interface role. This position requires a deep understanding of data-intensive and distributed systems, combined with a strong motivation for information design, visualization, and user experience (UX). The successful candidate will be responsible for control-plane and telemetry experiences in an environment where AI agents perform tasks and humans need to understand, engage with, and make judgments about the system's actions. This is a hands-on role for an individual with a clear perspective on agent versus human interaction, human-in-the-loop design, auditability, and making complex system behavior transparent. The role involves reasoning about complex backend systems and translating that complexity into intuitive, high-trust human interfaces. In an agentic world, control planes are evolving from rigid workflows to intent-driven supervision. This role requires an engineer with exceptional information and interaction design skills to redefine how humans direct, govern, observe, and intervene in AI-agent activities.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of distributed architecture, state management, consistency, asynchronous failure modes, and observability.
  • Strong proficiency in information architecture, interaction design, and data visualization.
  • Ability to work across backend system concepts (events, policies, lineages) and craft fine-grained user experiences in code.
  • Expertise designing interfaces for agentic execution beyond simple chat/copilot flows (focusing on delegation, governance, context-awareness, and trust).
  • Mastery of friction vs. fluidity—knowing precisely when to insert a confirmation step, how to show system causality, and how to represent uncertainty clearly.
  • Familiarity with design thinkers like Edward Tufte, Bret Victor, Tamara Munzner, or Ben Shneiderman.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building developer platforms, observability systems, control planes, or investigative analytics tools.
  • Background in human-computer interaction (HCI), design systems, or data visualization for enterprise/safety-critical software.
  • Track record of building tool-using AI models, agent supervision interfaces, or zero-to-one developer tools.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build domain models, APIs, and high-density visual interfaces for intent expression, agent supervision, and anomaly diagnosis.
  • Apply core information design principles (hierarchy, progressive disclosure, small multiples, data provenance) to make high-dimensional, temporal, and non-deterministic system state instantly understandable.
  • Design interactions, feedback loops, and state-reversal mechanisms for automated workflows. Define micro-interactions, sensible default states, and clear affordances for human oversight.
  • Intentionally balance synchronous approvals, asynchronous audit trails, and automated guardrails based on risk, uncertainty, and reversibility.
  • Rapidly prototype new interaction models, evaluate them against technical constraints, and ship production-grade code that raises the bar for explainability and usability.
