About The Position

GDIT's Summer Internship Program is designed with you in mind! Our internship provides you the opportunity to be a part of a collaborative team that is helping to solve our clients’ most challenging matters. Throughout GDIT’s 10-week Summer Internship Program, you will have the opportunity to do the following: Work side-by-side with GDIT professionals delivering work for clients. Collaborate with a team of peers to research and propose solutions to a current business challenge. Participate in a mentoring circle led by an early career champion. Interact with GDIT leaders. Participate in professional development. Our AI/ML Software Development and Engineering summer interns will work on a range of projects that ideally align with their interests. Some interns will develop agentic solutions capable of answering business questions and performing approved actions across enterprise information sources. Other interns will develop standalone proxy services for full, front-end management of any LLM implementation. The ultimate product will be a single managed service which includes features such as detection, monitoring, security, and FinOps, allowing flexible implementations that nonetheless adhere to consistent governance and management standards.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an associate's, bachelor's or master's degree program in computer science, IT, engineering, or other STEM field from a United States-based college or university.
  • Basic understanding of core Data Science concepts, including data cleaning, exploratory analysis, simple statistical methods, and foundational machine learning principles, with an eagerness to learn and apply AI/ML techniques in real‑world projects
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, and Teams)
  • Problem solving and interest in big data
  • Interest or experience with big data platform tools
  • Interest in data cleaning, wrangling, transformation, model selection, cross-validation, and deployment
  • Interest in building and maintaining scalable APIs and microservices
  • Interest in AI/ML model performance measurement, validation testing, and error or bias troubleshooting
  • Interest in containerization, optimization, and workflow automation
  • Interest in AI/ML security best practices to include data provenance, isolation, monitoring, and adversarial testing
  • Interest in responsible AI/ML governance to include transparency, risk mitigation, fairness, and compliance
  • Interest in FinOps practices
  • Knowledge of machine learning fundamentals
  • Knowledge of Python, SQL, or other programming languages
  • Knowledge of libraries like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Intuitiveness with an ability to identify and solve complex problems related to rapidly changing technology
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
  • Applicants should have a minimum of one semester remaining in their studies after their internship concludes.
